Plan the next replacement

Use your filter's stated limits.

Enter at least a calendar limit or a volume limit with estimated daily use. Follow any earlier instruction for your equipment.

Choose limits from the exact cartridge instructions.

An estimate from your inputs, not a cartridge test or a water-safety assessment. Entries aren't saved or submitted.

Make the numbers useful

Use the tool with confidence.

Where the limits come from

Use the current instructions for your equipment and cartridge. If an interval changes with source-water conditions or service requirements, follow those directions rather than treating the maximum printed capacity as guaranteed performance.

The volume estimate is the rated gallons divided by estimated gallons per day, rounded down to a whole day. The calendar date adds the stated months to the installation date and uses the last valid day when the destination month is shorter. The planner chooses the earlier date when both limits are entered.

This is a reminder calculation. It cannot detect an exhausted cartridge, a leak, a contaminant breakthrough, or a water advisory. An earlier replacement instruction or qualified service recommendation takes priority.

An example without a promised service life

Suppose a filter has a stated six-month limit and a 300-gallon limit, and the household expects to draw two gallons per day through it. The volume calculation gives 150 days. Compare that date with the actual six-month calendar date and use the earlier planned limit.

Those numbers are illustrative inputs, not a recommendation for every cartridge. A filter serving a refrigerator dispenser and one serving the entire home can have very different usage patterns.

Keep the part and schedule together

Save the exact part number, installation date, instructions, and intended treatment claim. Our compatibility guide helps check a proposed replacement before purchase. The equipment record can organize the service details.

If you are comparing ownership costs, use the cartridge cost guide with the same usage assumptions. A planned date isn't a fixed annual expense or a laboratory-confirmed service life.

Your entries stay in this page

The planner runs in your browser and doesn't submit your entries to HandyTrail. It doesn't save them between visits. You can download the calculated all-day calendar reminder after a valid calculation. Opening that file adds it only if you choose to import it into your calendar.

Check the values before using the reminder, and update the plan if actual use or the manufacturer's instructions change.

Before you decide

Practical questions, answered.

Which filter replacement limit should I use?

Use the limits in the exact cartridge instructions. If both a calendar and a volume limit apply, plan around the earlier one. Follow any instruction that calls for replacement sooner.

Can I download a calendar reminder?

Yes. After a valid calculation, use Download calendar reminder. Import the downloaded calendar file into your calendar app and check how that app handles reminders.

Does the reminder confirm my filter is still working?

No. The date is an estimate from your inputs. It does not measure the cartridge or establish drinking-water safety. Source-water conditions and equipment instructions may require earlier attention.

Does HandyTrail save my entries?

No. The tool does not send your entries to HandyTrail or save them between visits. Keep your own copy of any result you need.
