The bigger picture

A thoughtful starting point.

An under-sink reverse-osmosis system treats water at a particular location. Its usefulness depends on the concern, exact model, performance claims, and installation. “RO” alone is not a complete specification.

Ask about performance and efficiency

Check the certified reduction claims for the actual model, not a similar-looking product. EPA WaterSense labeling is a separate, specific check for eligible point-of-use RO systems. Ask how the equipment operates under your incoming-water conditions, what maintenance it requires, and how the reject-water connection will be handled.

Compare complete proposals, including installation and replacement components. The guide below explains which questions to ask without assuming every household needs RO.
